ARL ‘Howl-O-Ween’ Dog Costume Party | News, Sports, Jobs
Furry friends and family will have the chance to wear costumes and treats this Halloween season in Marshalltown.
The Marshalltown Animal Rescue League is launching a “Howls-O-Ween” Doggy Costume Party from noon to 4 p.m. on October 17th at Reunion Hall in Riverview Park. The event is free, but for $ 10 you can enter your dog in the costume contest to compete for four top prizes valued at $ 100 each.
Local businesses and organizations will have set up tables to distribute their own treats and candies, so dogs and children can make treats. The whole community is welcome to the event. Even those who do not have a dog can come and watch the competition and participate in other activities.
Dogs can also participate in the apple bobbing and photographers will be on hand to take professional photos of pets.
Marshalltown Animal Rescue League Volunteer Coordinator Jessica Slifer said it was the first event of its kind to be held
“Part of my job is to come up with different types of community outreach ideas”, said Slifer. “Halloween is my favorite holiday and I really wanted to try and do something fun.”
She said she was excited to see what the community came up with for their dog costumes. Although the Marshalltown Animal Rescue League doesn’t enter any of its shelter dogs into the costume contest, they will be dressing some of their animals in costumes throughout October and featuring them on Facebook.
Dogs participating in the event must be up to date with all their vaccinations and must be kept on a leash at all times.
