Emporia Animal Shelter has its latest adoption special coming up this week.

The shelter will host the Free Special Adoption on Veterans Day Friday with up to four sponsored adoptions, meaning all adoption costs have been covered. Stephanie Achille, director of the Humane Society of the Flint Hills, said service animals are becoming more common for veterans across the country, providing an additional opportunity for residents and veterans to find a ” faithful friend” seems to be obvious.

The adoption special comes nearly a month after an emergency admission that saw more than 80 pets removed from an Emporia home. Achille says all the animals are now ready for adoption after several weeks of medical care.

Achille says several residents have already come forward and opened their homes.

Currently, the animal shelter also has an abundance of straw that residents can collect and provide some extra warmth for their outdoor pets during the colder months of the calendar year.

For more information or to ask questions, residents can call the shelter at 620-340-6345, find Emporia Animal Shelter on Facebook, or visit Humanesocietyfh.org.

Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
