Help find a missing cat and meet these animals for adoption

There is always a wide variety of special animals available for adoption on Long Island, and this week is no different. Please read up on some of the adorable adoptables looking to make your home their new forever home.

But first, help us track down Ettore, a cat who recently escaped JFK baggage handlers, by sharing his information:

Available for adoption at the Smithtown Town Animal Shelter

** Special request ** Meet Pogo! This handsome 5 year old boy found his way to TOS Animal Shelter as a stray. Pogo is a rear leg amputee and a little shy. This adorable boy would thrive best in a quiet home with warm knees to snuggle up to. If you would like to meet Pogo, please call 631-360-7575.

Available for adoption at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter

** Special Request ** Harrison was brought to the TOH Animal Shelter as a stray by police in August. He was found alone in a park. He cannot see one of his eyes, he is thin, anxious and he is incontinent. He is also very gentle, affectionate, calm and enjoys good rapport. He is also dog friendly and would love absolutely nothing more than to find his way into a loving home where he could live the rest of his life with someone who can love and care for him. If you would like to learn more and get the most recent information about Harrison, please contact the shelter’s placement team at 516-785-5220 or email [email protected]

Available for adoption at Last Hope Animal Rescue

** Special Request & Senior Alert ** Looking at Sugar, you get a strong feeling that she hasn’t had an easy life in Virginia. It seems she had litter after litter and belonged to people who only wanted to use her for breeding. Sugar was spayed by Last Hope last week and the vet also removed a small breast tumor that is the result of having so many litters so she has stitches to remove. Sugar doesn’t act like a senior at all, a lot of pep in her approach. She shares a kennel with a lab with vision problems and they are best friends! Last Hope can’t undo the life Sugar had before meeting her… but they try to make it as healthy as possible so that the last chapter of her life has many, many happy pages.

To meet Sugar by appointment, please complete and submit a Cat Adoption Application which can be found on the home page of the Last Hope website at

Available for adoption at North Shore Animal League America

** The North Shore Animal League America will waive adoption fees for all felines six months and older until September for approved adopters.

Sassafras and Sam Hill

** Double Adoption ** When Sam Hill (Adoption # H210920) arrived with his sister Sassafras (Adoption # H210919) last year as kittens, he was feeling pretty good about his prospects for a safer life in inside. Sassafras, on the other hand, has yet to be conquered by his human companions. Sam is so dedicated that he offered all of his support and joined his sister in a wonderful foster home to help them relearn to trust the humans who worship them. Now these adorable bonded one-year-old siblings are looking for an experienced, calm household (with kids ages 10 and up) that will help reinforce all the good things they’ve learned from the Animal Support Team. League America. Sam Hill is about as perfect as the house mini-panthers, and Sassafras watches his every move for confidence. Treats are the way to their two hearts! If you are used to harboring the fear of felines, you are exactly the hero Sassafras and Sam Hill are looking for!

Taylor and the money

** Double Adoption ** It was a very lucky day last winter when the heroes discovered Taylor (Adoption # BF3683) and Monkey (Adoption # BF3684), abandoned outside to fend for themselves. That all changed when they were delivered to the safety of Bianca’s Furry Friends feline adoption center where they had a comfortable place to fit in… but first their vets took exceptional care of them. Monkey was diagnosed with hypercardiomyopathy which is a medical condition covered by the NSALA Animal Health Centers. With a successful plan in place, these boys are determined to meet sweet humans who visit them and enjoy parties and chin massages in their sunny bedroom. Once quite shy, Taylor opened his heart to the possibility that humans were the heroes who gave him and his brother a safe place to land when they needed it most. After all they’ve been through together, these besties have deserved the chance to find a quiet home with older kids to spend most of their time together. If this sounds like your house, please ask to meet Taylor and Monkey today!

Doodle Doodle

It’s hard to resist the adorable face of Dipsy Doodle (Adoption # G26622)! This gorgeous 5-year-old tabby needed help settling into her sunny bedroom at Bianca’s Furry Friends feline adoption center when she first arrived from a shelter in Georgia. Although she shares this room with other cats, she prefers to be the only cat to monopolize her human’s knees. Her visual impairment can make her jump easily, so a household with children 12 and older who can help her learn predictable household patterns will allow her to make the smooth transition to the family she deserves. You’ll find that the key to Dipsy’s heart is the treats – she can’t resist a delicious bite, especially if she enjoys it from the comfort of your lap!

Frosty (Adoption # BF3763) might not have felt very lucky when she lost her home recently, but her admission to the NSALA shelter family saved her life. This 2 year old beauty can add a cancer survivor to her list of accomplishments, and while she may feel embarrassed to receive praise and attention, she deserves all of these accolades and more. Frosty is looking for a loving hero who can provide a quiet life so that she can live each day to the fullest. A family with children aged 6 and over will give her the security she needs to settle into her new life. She will receive care through the NSALA Animal Health Centers at cost if she has any future problems related to her cancer history. Offer her your knees and you will discover that this is where she has always belonged. A look into Frosty’s grateful green eyes is all you’ll need to know that she’s meant to be a part of your heart forever.

Two-year-old Money (Adoption # BF2824) had a hard time when he lost his home recently and needed loving encouragement to feel optimistic about his future. This tender tabby’s wide-eyed wonder when he’ll be able to enjoy some peace and quiet, and the NSALA assures him that his next home will be all that and more, because Money deserves the best. Do you want to invest to be his hero?
