Humane Society to Expand Yankton Pound Facility | Community

A local animal shelter plans to solidify its role as a community pound with an expansion project this fall.

Since 2017, after Yankton no longer had an animal control officer, the Heartland Humane Society (HHS) contracted with the city to deal with impounded animals, while Yankton police remained in charge of the impoundment process, Kerry Feilmeier, executive director of HHS, told Press & Dakotan.
