Launch of a fundraising campaign for a new animal shelter
The Battlefords Humane Society has finally reached the point where they can launch a fundraising campaign for a new building.
The campaign will launch publicly on September 18 with activities from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the current location of the animal shelter at 751 – 114th St., North Battleford.
The day will include a barbecue, tours of the current building and tables to register for the fundraiser and for those who wish to donate or purchase foundation levels (to have their name inscribed on the coins at the inside the building) or paw prints.
Shelter coordinator Michelle Spark said it’s a long road to get there.
âWe’re ready to start fundraising, basically,â Spark said. âIt’s been a long time, we’ve been waiting for this for a long time. “
Their plans had been adjusted due to COVID-19 and rising costs, now with the goal of hitting a target of $ 2 million.
They had already raised about $ 500,000. âWe still have a long way to go and we can’t do it without our community,â Spark said.
The new location is set for Highway 4 North just outside the city limits.
The land has been purchased and a floor plan has been drawn up to show what the new facility will look like, which is available on their website. Part of the money collected has already been used for this purchase; with the Bill and Betty Heno Fund of the Battlefords and District Community Foundation Inc. which sponsored the $ 100,000 purchase last fall.
Campaign booklets are available at the shelter and will be available during the campaign launch event. Those looking for information on the fundraising campaign can go to www.shelterus.ca or email [email protected]
